Covalis Capital are a London based fund management team with a proven track record and pedigree and a continuing strategy run successfully for ten years at Noble Group (Arc), GLG Partners and Zimmer Lucas Capital. Founder and CIO Zach Mecelis has retained the core team of senior investment professionals throughout the life of the strategy. Covalis focuses primarily on the utilities, infrastructure and renewables sectors – industries subject to regulatory and legislative processes and/or complex commodity relationships and underlying dynamics, in which the team has gained expertise at one of the world’s largest commodities houses. The team’s competitive advantage also stems from well-established dialogue with industry executives, governments and regulatory bodies globally. Covalis’ deep industry experience specifically covers:

•             Utilities – Electricity, Gas and Water

•             Infrastructure – Energy and Transport

•             Renewables – Wind and Solar

•             Commodities – Iron Ore, Metallurgical and Thermal Coal, Steel, Base Metals, Fertilizers, Carbon and Power

The fund invests mainly in equities of OECD countries predominantly in Europe, covering 30 countries across distinct regulatory regimes. The investable universe consists of approximately 300 different companies of which 125-150 are active and under full coverage at any given time by analysts responsible for 15-20 companies each.     

Investment Professionals

Zach Mecelis is the Managing Partner and the CIO. He began his career at Zimmer Lucas Partners (“ZLP”) in 2000. By 2004, Zach had become the Director of Utilities Research to manage a team of eight people. Subsequently, he was recruited by GLG Partners LP (“GLG”) where he ran a long-short European utilities strategy. Zach was ranked #1 utilities analyst in Thomson Extel Survey by European utility company executives in 2006 and 2007. In 2009, he joined the Fortune 500 commodities company Noble Group where he launched and ran Arc Opportunity Fund Ltd employing the same investment strategy as at GLG.

Peter Murphy is the Director of Research and has been with the team since January 2005. He joined GLG in October 2003 to work in the risk function on top- down performance analysis and portfolio construction. Peter was ranked #1 utilities analyst in Thomson Extel Survey by European utility company executives in 2013 and 2014. Peter graduated from Balliol College, Oxford with a First Class B.A. in Physics and Philosophy.

Rolan Stikovas is responsible for Commodities Research. Rolan began his career at Zimmer Lucas in 1997 where he eventually became a Director of Research for their long-short technology fund managing a team of four people. In 2002, Rolan started and set up Equilibrium Capital Management LLC which managed a small fund and later provided research services to the team at GLG.

Jakob Moberg is the Head Trader and joined the team in March 2007 at GLG. Prior to GLG he was an equities and high yield credit trader at Zimmer Lucas in New York which he joined in May 2002.
